| History and Purpose of the Adult ESOL Practitioners’ Task Force |
In 1998, the Florida Department of Education provided funds for the creation of adult education task forces, one of them being the Adult English for Speakers of Other Languages Practitioners’ Task Force.
The Adult ESOL PTF exists by authority of the Florida Department of Education Program Plan for Adult Education and Family Literacy and Florida’s participation in federal funding of adult education and family literacy programs emanating from the Adult and Family Literacy Act State Grants Programs and Title II of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998.
The primary purpose of this particular PTF is to be an adult education program and curriculum recommending body as it relates to the specific adult education program area of Adult English for Speakers of Other Languages. The Adult ESOL PTF will constantly review critical adult ESOL program issues and recommend appropriate action plans relative to future program needs and service delivery strategies, improving or restructuring program areas, and establish consistent standards for performance measures and accountability components for adult ESOL programs and activities. Secondarily, the Adult ESOL PTF will act as a program resource for adult ESOL practitioners and provide instructional area expertise, as appropriate, to the following agencies whose mission is to enhance adult education practitioners’ capability through training and professional development activities: the five (5) Regional Training Councils, the five (5) Regional Literacy Centers, Adult and Community Educators of Florida, Inc., the Florida Literacy Coalition, and Florida TechNet
